MFR 1: Overview of Future Episodes
After running for thirty years, I became a certified running coach, and I gotta say, I was amazed at how much I didn’t know about how to train.
Like most people, for those thirty years, I was tied up with other things besides studying about running. I was teaching school, raising my two kids, and somehow eeking out time for a run on most days.
Once a year, I’d race in the biggest local race, and I’d step up my training a few weeks beforehand, but it turns out, I wasn’t doing it right. Oddly, even though I worked with a coach the last couple of years before I became certified, I didn’t have any understanding of how to train for the best possible performance or for optimal health.
When I realized how much I didn’t know, I was compelled to get the word out to other people, and that’s when I decided to start this podcast.
It’s not rocket science, but most runners probably haven’t heard much of the information, the training principles, that coaches know, information that has the potential to make a huge impace on your running.
In this and future podcasts, I’ll begin with the most basic and useful information, which is an explanation of the running training principles about which every runner’s training should be planned. Future topics will include base building, tapering, cross training, racing, speed work, stretching, drills, strength training, trail running, marathons, running form, injury prevention, race strategy, and much more.
