There is nothing like a great running movie to get you charged up for your next run, and I deliver the perfect choice in this episode of the Mojo for Running Podcast.
A few months back, when I was out West, visiting Kiddo, we joined the Tacoma Runners for a one night special showing of the Sterling Noren’s documentary film Run Free: The True Story of Caballo Blanco.
It was standing room only, and no wonder. If you read Christopher McDougall’s best-selling book, Born to Run, a Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Ever Known, then you’ll recall that it immortalized ultra runner Micah True, known by the people in Mexico’s Copper Canyons as Caballo Blanco, the White Horse. Well, this film tells the story of this amazing runner. It has won numerous awards, and once you see it, you’ll know why.
In this episode, I tell you a little more about the film and provide information about where you can see it or buy it. If you are lucky, you can arrange to bring the film to your city, like I did. What an incredibly inspirational running story. It will make you ache to get out on your next long run. Run Free will motivate any runner, and make you love running just a little more, if that is even possible.
Noren has captured the essence of Micah True’s motivation, his personality and his passion. He was actually present at the Tacoma showing, which was great, because he told us the story of how he came to meet True, and all about how the film was made.
Then, I recommend two other inspiring running films. So, grab a few of your running friends, an ice cold beer, and settle in for a great show!
